Nelson R. Raitt

ELIOT, Maine - Nelson R. Raitt, 84, of State Road in Eliot died on Nov. 24, 2013 at his home.

Born in Eliot on Oct. 9, 1929, he was a son of the late Roland A. and Irma C. (Spinney) Raitt. Nelson attended local schools graduating from Eliot High School. He was self employed, owning and operating the Raitt sawmill and for many years did custom tractor work. He was one of the founding members of the Eliot Antique Tractor Association.

Nelson was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Army from 1951-1953.

Besides his wife, Ernestine A. Raitt of Eliot he is survived by two sons, Richard Raitt of South Berwick, Maine, and Albert Raitt of Eliot, Maine; two daughters, Sally Lambert of Somerville, S.C., and Lynn Conway of Dover, N.H.; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David Raitt of Eliot, Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara J. Raitt, in December of 1981; a sister, Arlene Raitt Wagner; and a brother Gerald Raitt.

Services for Nelson will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to York Hospital Friend Raising, 16 Hospital Drive York, Maine, 03909. Care for the Raitt family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
