Oscar E. Couture

SANFORD - Oscar E. Couture, 93, of Sanford, passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by his family, on Oct. 30, 2013, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford.

He was born in Acton on Nov. 9, 1919, a son of the late Peter and Alma (Hamel) Couture.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He retired in 1985 with 15 years of service with the Sanford Post Office.

He was a communicant of Holy Family parish since 1942.

A man of small stature but a big personality, he enjoyed making people laugh and telling jokes.

He is predeceased by his wife, Gabrielle Guillemette Couture, and daughter, Patricia (Couture) Giguere.

He is survived by two granddaughters, Susan Ottey and her husband, Oneil, of Sanford, and Donna Andrews and her husband, Brad, of Danville, N.H.; four great grandchildren, Paige Andrews, Olivia Andrews, Anneilia Ottey and Tyrese Ottey; one brother, Phillip Couture, of Gardiner; and his longtime companion, Bertha Lavertu.

Visiting hours were on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter Street, Sanford. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, Nov. 4, at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church. Burial with military honors followed at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
