NEW SMYMA, FLA. — Ralph Frank Hodgdon, a United States Military Veteran, passed away on September 11, 2012. He was born 1918 in Van Buren, Maine, son of Frank and Rose (Michaud) Hodgdon.

At a young age, the Hodgdon family moved to Houlton, Maine, which became "hometown" to Ralph. He was a graduate of Houlton High School, class of 1938. After completing further education, Ralph became associated with A&P Supermarkets (Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company) where he remained for 42 years. During this period of time Ralph became District Manager and served in this capacity throughout Maine and New Hampshire. Ralph retired in 1979 and the family relocated to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, from 1980 to 2000. Ralph was active in real estate and in 1996 was named Real Estate Associate of the Year. During World War II, Ralph served in the United States Air Force. Over the years, Ralph has been very active in many organizations and was a life member of Hidden Lakes Golf Club where he enjoyed many wonderful friends.

In 1941, Ralph married Elizabeth Bridges. They shared fifty-nine wonderful years and were the parents of two daughters.

Ralph will always be remembered as a devoted and caring person. He was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was truly an icon of the community.

Ralph was predeceased by his parents, his wife Betty; his daughter, Patricia Doria; and sister Rosalind.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Welsh; beloved and dear friend, Sis Ritchie; granddaughters, Kelley and Steven Potvin, Tracey and Doug Otto, Katie and Doug Rangnow and Brittany and James Horrigan; four great granddaughters; one great grandson; a son-in-law, John Doria, and his brother Francis Hodgdon.

Services will be held on Monday, September 17 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are to be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church 1400 Live Oak Street New Smyrna Beach, Fla., 32168.
