Robert Albert Welch

DOVER - Robert Albert Welch, 62, of Middle Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at his home after a two-year battle with cancer.

Born in Rochester, April 29, 1950, he was a 1968 graduate of Dover High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served from 1968 to 1978. He was a member of the American Legion.

He worked at the General Electric Co. in Somersworth for 21 years and then was a hazmat coordinator at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until he retried last September due to his health.

He was an avid card player and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

He was predeceased by his mother, Marguerite (Vachon) Bickford, and his stepfather, Charles Bickford.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Chase) Welch; his stepchildren: Mary Jane Merritt and husband Brent of York, Maine, and Jamie Cragin and wife Jill of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six grandchildren: Devin, Cole and Drew Merritt, Isabella, Julia and Sophia Cragin; and his brother, Edward Welch, and wife, Paulette, of Rochester; and two nephews. He also leaves his beloved dogs, Sophie and Sadie.

A memorial service will be held at a later date and time to be announced by the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave.
