Susan Wainwright Bisbee

COLUMBIA, Conn. - Susan Wainwright Bisbee, 45, died late on Thursday, September 12th, 2013 at her home in Columbia, Connecticut, after a courageous fight with cancer, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born to James and Cynthia Bisbee, Jan. 29, 1968, in Rochester. Susan graduated from Berwick Academy, So. Berwick, Maine in 1986, she received a BA in Latin American Studies from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, Conn. in 1990, and she received a Masters in Oriental Medicine from The International Institute of Chinese Medicine, Albuquerque, N.M. in 2000.

She grew up in Rochester, and Drakes Island, Maine. She lived in Willimantic, Conn.; Tampa, Fla.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Columbia, Conn.

While at UCONN Susan was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Upon graduation from UCONN Susan worked for the March of Dimes in Florida and Connecticut, EASTCONN in Connecticut, and Catholic Charities and Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon graduation from the International Institute of Chinese Medicine Susan returned to Connecticut to open her practice in Acupuncture. Most recently Susan was the Director of Integrative Medicine at Hartford Hospital and continued to practice privately as an Acupuncturist.

Susan is survived by her beloved daughter Annika White; her parents James and Cynthia Bisbee, of Albuquerque; her brother Michael Bisbee of Albuquerque; her aunt Susan Rauth and her husband James of Frederick, Md.; her uncle Wallace Bisbee and his wife Patricia of Albuquerque, N.M.; her aunt Beverly Koch and her husband Steven of Albuquerque, N.M.; her nephews James and Eamon Bisbee of Rochester, NH; her great uncle David Oliphant and his family of Vernon, Conn.; and her cousins; Jonathan Helfenstein of Germantown, TN; Charles Helfenstein of Thurmont, Md.; Blair Bisbee of Las Cruces, N.M.; Laura Bisbee of Portland, Ore.; Jim Coyer of Redwood Shores, Calif.; Kelly Doorn of Millbrook, Ill.; and Kathy Penn of Denver, Colo. She leaves behind special friends, Shanlee Ginchereau, of Cape Neddick, Maine, Jeffrey Osborne, of Boston, Mass., and Kirsten Ross of Ogunquit, Maine.

Special thanks to The Reverend Everett C. Perrine of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Hebron, Conn.; to Jim Fellows of Middletown, Conn.; to her colleagues at the Integrative Medicine department at Hartford Hospital; and to her beloved patients.

Susan was honored by Walter Tokarz and neighbors, who painted her house this summer and UCONN schoolmates Rich, Kevin, Eric, Roxanne and Graham and their spouses who landscaped and brought good cheer.

Per Susan's wishes, her body was donated to the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University in North Haven, Conn.

Memorial service to be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 30 Church Street (Rte. 85), Hebron, Conn. 06248. On Saturday, October 5th, 2013 at 1 p.m.
