Thelma Hazel Toof

SOMERSWORTH - Thelma Hazel Toof, 83, of 82A Washington St., died on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center following an extended illness.

Born July 7, 1929, in Dover she was the daughter of William A. and Mable S. (Upham) Hamilton. She attended Rollinsford Grade School and graduated from Dover High School in 1947. She then attended the Wentworth Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1950 as an RN. She continued to work at WDH, retiring in 1982. She primarily worked as a maternity nurse. Throughout her working years, Thelma helped deliver the babies of many of her family and friends. She lived in Rollinsford most of her life, moving to Somersworth in 1990.

She was predeceased by her husband Whitcomb Toof, who died in January of 2000, her two brothers, William and Winthrop Hamilton, and two sisters, June Lasvasseur and Barbara Sampson.

She was a member of the Alumni Association of WDH and ANA.

Thelma loved her family and friends and is a joy to be around. She always had a kind word for everyone she met. She loved to attend social events of any kind and loved to be with other people.

She is survived by her two sons, Daniel A. Toof Sr. and his wife Donna of Rollinsford and Gary W. Toof and his wife Teri of Berwick, Maine; three grandchildren, Jennifer Toof of Berwick, Maine, Brian Toof and his wife Reigan of Berwick, Maine, and Daniel Toof Jr. and his wife Lynn of Rollinsford; four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Joey, Trentin and Laretta Toof; a brother Robert "Bud" Hamilton of Dover; five sisters, Gloria Perreault, Mabel Donahue, Gladys Faucher, Lorraine Grant and Marylin Christie.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family at New Town Cemetery in Rollinsford.
