KITTERY, Maine - Albert J. Marquis 74, of Kittery died suddenly on February 12, 2014 at York Hospital.
Born in Winsted Conn., on October 3, 1939 a son of Albert G. and Adela (Royer) Marquis. He was raised in Winsted and graduated from Gilbert High School with the class of 1958.
Al served in the United States Air Force from 1959-1963 stationed at Dover Delaware Air Force Base as a jet engine tester, skills he would later use when he returned to Connecticut to work at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford for nearly twenty years.
He settled in Maine in 1980 and would own several businesses including the Kittery Flea Market and Mainely Buoys on US Route 1 in Kittery. He also worked at Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant and for Local 25 in Boston.
Al is survived by his loving family including his children; Suzette Batchelder and her partner Frank Stevens of York, Maine, Dennis Marquis of York, Maine, Glen Marquis and his wife Meredith of Rollingsford, NH, Brian Marquis and wife Lynn, of Glastonbury, Conn., Lynn McPherson and husband James of Eliot, Maine.
Grandchildren; Justin, Chantal, Heather, Kyle, Kaitlynn, Chelsea, Samuel, Sarah and Joseph. Great grandchildren; Tyler and James. Siblings; Roland Marquis and wife Ruth, Noella Spurdle, Jeanette Peck and husband Alden, Yolanda Stavnitzky, Gertrude and Rene Schlapher, Clair and Russel Nelson, Robert Marquis, and Yvonne and Robert LaMere. Many nieces and nephews and his former spouse Margaret A (Cisowski) Marquis. He was predeceased by his sister Laurette Whitman.
Friends are invited to visit with Albert's family on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 from 1-3 p.m. in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine, where a funeral will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the spring with his parents in Conn. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the
