SACO, Maine - Ida K. Watson, 91, of York, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Seal Rock Healthcare at Atlantic Heights in Saco, Maine.
She was born in Tann/Rhön, Hesse, Germany on Nov. 17, 1922, a daughter of the late Fritz and Minna (Koch) Kuhl. Ida grew up in Germany and then became a Kindergarten teacher, as well as a children's nanny. She came to the United States after her marriage to the late James E. Watson. Ida formerly resided in South Hadley, Mass., and for 30 years lived in Kittery, Maine, prior to moving to Sentry Hill in York, Maine in 1998.
In Kittery, she served on the Board of Voter Registration for 16 years, first as a member and later as a chairperson. She was the first president of the "Gateway to Maine Republican Women," York County. She was also an active member of the Kittery Republican Town Committee and the York County Republican Committee, both for 30 years until her retirement. Ida was a volunteer at York Hospital for 13 years and was also a member of the York Writer's group, as well as the Sentry Hill Writers group. Her hobbies were her flower gardens in Kittery, writing, and her cats and dogs. She also enjoyed spending time with her Goddaughter, Lori Smith of Saco, and her friends in the "German Group."
Mrs. Watson stipulated no visiting hours and a private burial service arranged by J. S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine. Burial will take place in the spring at Orchard Grove Cemetery in Kittery.
