Darwin Leroy Lien

KITTERY, Maine - Darwin Leroy Lien, 82 of Maple Street in Kittery died on Feb. 15, 2014 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Grantsburg, Wisconsin on June 14, 1931 a son of Ole and Hannah (Torgeson) Lien. He graduated from Grantsburg High school in 1951. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy serving as a submariner aboard both diesel and nuclear powered submarines from World War II in Japan to Korea, Vietnam and into the Cold War. Following his retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer, he began a career in the civilian ship building industry at General Dynamics and later for many years in the STO program retiring in 1998.

He enjoyed time with family, his dog Guinness and fishing and was well known for his blue " jumpsuite ".

He is survived by his loving wife Shirley (Lamagdelaine) of Kittery a son Darwin " Sonny " Leroy Lien Jr, step daughter Kathrine Barrett and a step son Nelson Vachon and his wife Bonnie, grandchildren Todd and his wife Gina, Jacob, Tara, Jack and Barinica, as well as sisters Janice Christenson of Wis. and Ardyce Sazl of Minn. He was predeceased by a son John and a grandson Jeremiah Pomerleau as well as four brothers and two sisters.

Friends may visit with his family on Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road in Kittery Maine 03904, where a memorial service will be celebrated at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of York 16 Hospital Drive York Maine 03909. Care for the Lein family is entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
