Estelle Dondero

Dover - Estelle Dondero, 89, died Saturday March 8, 2014 at Hyder Family Hospice House, following a brief illness.

Born in Holyoke, Mass., May 17, 1924 the daughter of Joseph and Dora (Boulanger) Roy, was a graduate of Holyoke High School and has been a resident of Dover since 1946.

Prior to her retirement she worked at McIntosh College, United Tanners, Clarostat Manufacturing Co. and Foster's Daily Democrat.

Estelle was a member and past president of the Pioneer Garden Club, a member of the Dover Area Senior Center, the South Berwick Senior Center, the Rochester Senior Center and the Good Ole Sports of Rochester. She enjoyed line dancing and ballroom dancing as well as playing cards with her friends and groups at the Moose in Dover, at the South Berwick Senior Center and at her home.

In her earlier years she enjoyed roller-skating and ice skating as well as swimming and horseback riding. She was active for years on bowling leagues and enjoyed traveling and trips to casinos where she enjoyed playing the slots. She was an avid reader and an accomplished knitter who knit beautiful intricately designed sweaters for her children and grandchildren. She was also an enthusiastic New England Patriots fan.

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Edward Dondero and her brother, Roland Roy of South Hadley, Mass. She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Woods of Dover and Mary J. Stone of Dover, as well as a son, Ronald Dondero of Barrington. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Janice Woods of Los Angeles, CA, David Woods of Memphis, TN and Jessica Fisher of Dover; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Wednesday March 12 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the Parish of the Assumption, St. Mary Church, corner of Chestnut & Third Streets. Burial will follow in St. Mary New Cemetery.
