George Richard Day

DOVER - George Richard Day, 84, of Sixth St. in Dover, died at Riverside Rest Home on Wednesday, June 25, 2014.

Born August 8, 1929 in Ipswich, Mass., the son of Charles and Ruth (Corliss) Day. He attended Dover Schools and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, having earned three Bronze Service Stars. He was well known for raising chickens for many years.

He started his working career at the Eliot Rose Farm in Madbury, then worked at the great Elm Farm, Scrutons Dairy, the Jic Jack Bottling Co., and then drove bus part time for UNH. George then went to work at Strafford County Justice and Administration Building starting as security guard then became a full-time maintenance man and worked for the County for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his two daughters, Laverne Rice and her husband David of Rochester and Anna Marie Provencher of Dover; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his companion of several years Estelle Maglaras.

He was predeceased by his wife Jeannette (Gagne) Day and brothers Lewis Day, Charles Day, Jr.; John Day; Herbert Day; Everett Day and Fred Day and sisters Flossie Hunt; Mildred Chambers and Amy Hall.

Friends are invited to call Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Tasker funeral Home, 621 Central Ave. where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Alfred Weeden, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
