SANFORD - Gabrielle T. Corriveau, 86, of Sanford, died on Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford.

Gabrielle was born in Mexico, Maine, on March 10, 1928, to Antonio and Alice (Contois) Filion. She grew up in Biddeford and Springvale, where she attended the local Catholic schools.

During her working life, she had been employed at the Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, Vermont. She also baby-sat for people and worked in the Goodall Textile Mills in Sanford.

On May 28, 1949, she married Marcel Corriveau, and together they shared 52 years of marriage until his death in 2001.

Gabrielle was a devout Catholic. She prayed the rosary often and had been a communicant of St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish in Sanford.

She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting and bowling. She also enjoyed going dancing when she was a younger woman.

She had been a devoted wife and daughter, lovingly caring for both her mother and her mother-in-law when they became elderly. She will be remembered as a kind and caring woman and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Gabrielle was predeceased by her husband, Marcel J. Corriveau, and a brother, Roger Fillion.

Surviving are two brothers, Robert Filion and his wife, Sharon, of East Haven, Connecticut, and Gerard Fillion and his wife, Gloria, of Killingworth, Connecticut; a special cousin, Monique Lemay, of Springvale; and nine nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, June 22, at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home in Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, June 23, at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, in Springvale. Interment followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
