Donald Cummings

Dover – Donald Cummings, 53, of Richardson Drive, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Hyder Family Hospice house with his family at his side.

Born in Hanover, NH on January 6, 1961, the son of John and Carol (Elwell) Cummings, he was a graduate of Somersworth High School, Class of 1979, attended Keene State College and has lived in the Somersworth- Dover Area all of his life.

He had worked as a machinist at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard and soon after graduated from the electrical apprenticeship program at the Yard, prior to working as a letter carrier at the Somersworth Post Office, starting in the early 1990's. He was a member and served as Steward of the National Association of Letter Carriers BR 1001 and a Trustee and Steward of National Association of Letter Carriers BR 44.

Don was an avid sports fan; he especially loved cheering on "his" beloved St. Louis Rams. He was a season ticket holder of UNH Hockey, enjoyed fishing and bowling and participating in fantasy baseball & football.

Most importantly, Don loved spending his spare time following his passion of golf at the Oaks Golf Course in Somersworth where he was a member of two leagues. Don cherished the time he spent with family and friends and was supportive of all their activities; he was seen going to every game, tournament and social event.

A dedicated father and husband, Don is best remembered by his smile, witty remarks, laughter and is survived by his wife of nearly 26-years Cindy (McKenney) Cummings and a daughter Jessica both of Dover; his parents John and Carol Cummings of Somersworth; a brother David Cummings, wife Lisa of Somersworth and their son Ryan, wife Colleen; a sister Cindy Mowbray, husband Richard and their children Cassandra, Tiffany and Michael of Bremerton, WA, his mother-in-law Mary McKenney of Dover, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by a nephew Randy Cummings, an Aunt Jackie Ferland, and his father-in-law Arthur McKenney.

Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Thursday July 3 at the Parish of the Assumption, St. Mary Church, corner of Chestnut & Third Street with the Very Rev. Aggie Jean, V.F., pastor as celebrant, Rev. Mark Rideout will also take part in the funeral service. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
