DOVER - Lorenda C. Hill, 98, passed away on Wednesday July 2, 2014 at the Riverside Rest Home. Lorenda was born on October 15, 1915 in Lambertville, New Jersey, the daughter of Louis V.M. and Mary Ethel (Sergeant) Cain. She graduated from Trenton (NJ) State Teachers College in 1937 and began working as a music school teacher in New Milford and later Montclair. In 1950, she married Richard K. Hill of Hollis, New York, and became a full-time homemaker and mother to her two step-children. Later, she returned to teaching music in the Smithtown (NY) public schools. In 1969, she and Dick moved to Florida, settling in Port St. Lucie in 1970. She started the Spanish Lakes Mixed Chorus shortly after that, and conducted that group for 27 years. On the group's 25th anniversary, they were invited to perform in Atlantic City for an Adult Education Week conference; three bus loads of choristers made that trip. In 2006, Lorenda moved to New Hampshire to be near her stepson. She moved into Riverside Rest Home the following year and resided there until her death. Lorenda is survived by her stepson, Dr. Richard Hill and his wife, Charlotte, of Dover; and her stepdaughter, Carolyn (Hill) O'Neill and her husband, Dennis, of Oriental, North Carolina. She was pre-deceased by her parents and her sisters, Martha and Dorothy, and a brother, Harold.
Lorenda's family would like to publicly thank the staff at Riverside Rest Home for the wonderful care they provided for her. All the staff there were helpful, gracious and kind, and we appreciate very much the excellent care they gave.
