Josephine (Jo) Smith Wade

DOVER - Josephine (Jo) Smith Wade, 86, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at her home after a long and courageous battle with multiple health challenges.

Josephine was born in Revere, Mass. on July 23, 1927, the oldest child of Charles and Natalie (Russo) DeSalvo and lived most of her life in Revere, Mass. She moved to Rochester, after her marriage to George Wade on December 26, 1998. In 2010, she moved to Maple Suites in Dover. Before her retirement she worked as the assistant tax collector for the city of Revere, Mass. She was a Foster Grandparent at the School Street School in Rochester, for ten years. Jo was well known for her loving spirit and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family in New England, and traveling to Calif. to be with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved ballroom dancing, reading, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, watching movies, and simply spending time with her many friends.

Josephine was predeceased by husband George, grandson Jason Smith, daughter Barbara Jean Smith, brother Peter DeSalvo and sister Sally Federici. Surviving members of the family include: one son, Robert Smith of Revere, Mass., one daughter, M. Lindy Khan and husband Amiram Givon of Lafayette, Cailf.., and one brother Joseph DeSalvo and wife Geraldine of Lynnfield, Mass. She also leaves four stepchildren, George Wade of Tennessee, Leslie Cliché and Jeff Wade of New Hampshire, and David Wade of Colorado. Additional surviving members of the family include three grandchildren, Jonathan Smith and wife Cristina of Hercules, Calif., Melissa Raman and husband Ashneil of Concord, Calif., and Matthew Khan and wife Tatiana of Pleasant Hill Calif., four great grandchildren, Janelle and Aubrianna Smith, Micah and Khyber Raman, six step-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held at the H. J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main Street, Rochester, N.H. on Friday, July 11, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday. July 12, 2014, at St. Mary's Church, 71 Lowell Street, Rochester, N.H, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. To sign the online guest book, please visit
