Doris M. Nelson

Newmarket - Doris "Dory" M. Nelson, 82, of Wadleigh Falls Road, died July 12, 2014 at the Emeritus at Sprucewood.

Born September 2, 1931 in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of Harold C. and Laura M. (Hortop) Bennett. She had lived most of her life in Newmarket.

She married Herbert E. Nelson, who was in the military, and they had four children; James, Mark, Thomas and Laura. Her husband died in 1972. She was predeceased by her son, James, in 1959.

"Dory" was the director of the hot lunch program at Newmarket JR/SR High School for many years. After working in the program for 27 years she retired and became a volunteer in the school office.

She was a member of the Newmarket Community Church and had been a Sunday school teacher for many years.

She is survived by three children, Mark A. Nelson of Barrington, Thomas J. Nelson of Waynesville, North Carolina and Laura Welch of Loudon, NH; six grandchildren, Melissa, Amy, Matthew, Jacquelinle, Christine, and Bobbi; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 16 from 6-8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Street, Newmarket.
