Doris Ann Loomis

DOVER - Doris Ann Loomis, 91 of 25 Isaac Lucas Circle died at Webster at Rye on Thursday July 17, 2014.

Doris, known as "Dody," by her friends and family was born on July 17, 1923 in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of James and Martha (Anderson) McCullough. She attended Franklin College and received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and shortly after met Lester G. Loomis to whom she married before he was deployed to the Pacific theater of World War II.

Dody and Lester started their family in 1950 with the birth of their first son James Lester Loomis followed by another son, Lyon Anderson Loomis, three years later and eventually settled in Westwood Massachusetts. As a graduate student in Landscape Design at Radcliffe University, Dody developed a deep love for horticulture and organic gardening. Dody's extensive organic gardens were a source of great pride to her and Les after they retired to an old farmhouse in South Dartmouth, Mass.

Whether it was spending summers sailing on Keuka Lake with her boys or niece and nephew, or sailing on Buzzard's Bay with her grandsons, Dody was happiest surrounded by family. She spent countless hours researching family heritage, visiting historic sites and enjoyed sharing her genealogical discoveries with others.

Les and Dody later moved to Dover, to be closer to family. Dody loved her community and her neighborhood that served as a foundation of love, support and friendship to her after she was widowed.

Dody was an active member of the First Parish Congregational Church in Dover, and the Church of the Palms in Sarasota, Fla., both in which she served as a Stephen Minister.

Doris is survived by her two sons, James Loomis and his wife Anne of Dover and Lyon Loomis of Sarasota, Fla.; her niece, Patricia Lucas of St. Augustine, Fla., and nephew George Loomis of Pace, Fla. and their families; her grandsons Jeremy Loomis of Dover and his family and Nathan Loomis of Durham.

She is predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years Lester G. Loomis in 2007.

Calling hours will be on Monday July 21, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave, Dover, N.H. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
