ROCHESTER — Robert James Rowe, 77, of Rochester, died unexpectedly during emergency heart surgery on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass. Bob's wife Deanna and all seven of their children, as well as several other family members, were with him at the hospital at the time of his passing.

Bob was born June 26, 1933, in Harrisburg, Pa., and he was a graduate of John Harris High School, class of 1952. After graduating high school, he entered the Navy at a time when the Korean War was still in progress. Just before he went into the service, Bob met and later married Deanna (Joy) Simmons Rowe, the love of his life. Bob and Dee were married 55 years and together they raised seven children. Over the years the family lived in Wash., Kan., N.J. and Pa., and in 1970, they finally settled in Milton. In their later years they moved to Rochester.

After being employed with Sears for 36 years, Bob retired in 1995. He also owned and restored rental properties and operated his own appliance repair business. Bob enjoyed fishing, playing golf and reading. He was respected for his breadth of knowledge and he was particularly skilled at fixing most anything needing repair. Bob and Dee very much enjoyed traveling and in recent years they spent their winters in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Acworth, Ga.

Bob's passion in life was his love of God. A graduate of Harrisburg Bible School, he served many years as a lay pastor in a number of local churches and he was involved as a church deacon, Sunday school teacher and a councilor to anyone in need of spiritual direction. His home church was Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Rochester. In recent years, Bob also served as a temporary pastor at churches in both Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, Canada. He loved serving Jesus and took every opportunity to tell you of his love for God.

Bob leaves behind his wife, Deanna Rowe of Rochester, and seven children; Rocky Rowe of New Durham, Jerry Rowe and wife Debbie of Wakefield, Susan Masse and husband Ray of Dover, Tom Rowe and wife Miss Cheri of Gonic, Jill Leng and husband Gregg of Acworth, Ga., Annette Slipp and husband Brian of Alton and Roxanne Canepa and husband Kevin of Barrington. Bob also had 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind one brother, Ronnie Rowe, of Rutherford, Pa., and he was predeceased by brother Jack Rowe and sister Lois Whitcomb.
