NEWMARKET — Robert Forrest Schuyler, of Newmarket, died on Dec. 12, 2010, after a long struggle with cortico basal ganglionic degeneration.

Bob was born on Dec. 26, 1940, in Littleton, NH, the son of Dorothy Bangs Schuyler and Philip H. Schuyler. His childhood was spent in Lisbon, where he acquired his lifelong passion for carpentry, the outdoors, hunting and fishing.

After graduating from New Hampshire Technical Institute in 1961, he moved to Dover and began his career as a carpenter, contractor and developer in the Seacoast area. He loved designing and building and spent more than 45 years in the construction business until ill health forced his retirement.

In 1962, he married Rebecca (Butson) Schuyler and they raised their two sons, Shawn and Christopher, in the Durham/Lee area. In 1998, Bob and Rebecca moved to Gilford to enjoy their retirement on Lake Winnipesaukee and to be closer to the mountains they loved. Bob, however, still enjoyed running his company, Schuyler General Contractors, Inc, and commuted to Newmarket daily for the next eight years until illness prompted them to move back closer to their family.

Bob loved boating along the New Hampshire and Maine coasts, as well as in the Caribbean and later on Lake Winnipesaukee. Skiing was another joy and he looked forward every winter to ski trips with family and friends here in New England or in the Western U.S. or Canada. In recent years, he savored having more time to spend with his family, watching his grandchildren's activities, driving his John Deere, and visiting the family's vacation home in Lyman. His family will truly miss him.

Bob is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of Newmarket; his son, Shawn Schuyler of Lee; his son, Christopher and daughter-in-law Jennifer Schuyler of Durham; his beloved grandchildren, Damian Woodard, Isabelle, Hailey, and Jack Schuyler; nephews, Paul and Stephen Clement; cousin, Beverly Amadon; brother-in-law, Robert Butson, and family; sister-in-law, Anne Butson.

He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Ann Schuyler Clement.

A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Rd., Newmarket, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the Lisbon Regional School Foundation, PO Box 113, Lisbon, NH 03585.
