STRAFFORD — Richard N. Saunders, 82, of Province Road, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at his residence with his family by his side after a brief illness.

Richard was born on April 30, 1928, in Brookline, Mass., the son of the late John and Irene (Hebert) Saunders. He served our country in World War II in the U.S. Navy. Richard was a lifeguard for the Brookline Swimming Pool; he had his own construction company, ALGADA (named after his girls). He worked for the Brookline Fire Department, after retiring he moved to Strafford. Richard was one of the original founders for the Strafford Swamp Stompers, trail master for years.

Richard is survived by his wife, Alice (Bryson) Saunders; his children, Gail Lavoie and her husband, Pat, Richard N. Saunders, Jr., and Dawn Kraytenberg; his grandchildren, Erica Pehopek and husband, Ben, Patrick Lavoie, Jr. and his wife, Tama, Travis and Shane Saunders, Ernie, Derek and Tyler Kraytenberg.

Richard was predeceased by his siblings, Barbara Fearon, Jacquline Cusick, Jean Kelley, and Eleanor Kelley.

Friends and family may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, with a memorial service following at 6 p.m. at the Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road, Route 4, Lee, N.H. with Deacon Robert Gagnon, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Strafford.

Friends and family may join us at the Grange Hall for the reception after the services at 569 Province Road, Strafford.
