ROCHESTER — Sylvia (Hamel) Laferte Marcoux, 92, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.

A lifelong resident of Gonic and Rochester, she was the daughter of Ferdinand Hamel and Aldea Gentes. She was a communicant of St. Leo and Our lady of the Holy Rosary parishes.

She had worked as a legal secretary for the late Judge Ovila J. Gregoire of Dover and for the firms of Cooper, Hall & Walker in Rochester and Coolidge & Cullinane in Somersworth, and finally for Judge Robert A. Carignan of Rochester, until her retirement.

In 1942, she married Hector Laferte, who died in 1992. In 1994, she married Gideon Marcoux, who died in 2007. She was also predeceased by her son, Robert Laferte, in 2010.

She is survived by her children, Jacqueline (Mrs. Norbert) Lambert of Barrington, Martin Laferte and his wife, Billie, of Farmington, and Norman Laferte and his wife, Betty, of Rochester, as well as by her daughter-in-law, Susan Laferte of Barrington.

Also surviving are her grandchildren, Theresa Bradley and her husband, Robert, Diane Lambert, Denise Laferte, Janet Sephens and her husband, Mark, Christopher Laferte, Melissa Clay, and Jason Laferte; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are three stepchildren, Ronald Marcoux, Judith Libby and Arthur Marcoux.

Calling hours will be held at the H. J. Grondin Funeral Home, 177 N. Main St., Rochester, on Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Leo Church, 59 Main St., Gonic, on Monday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Gonic at a later date.
