DOVER — William O Ford, 89, of Garrison Road, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

He was born on Sept, 17, 1921, in Ellsworth, Maine, the son of Oscar and Hattie (Soper) Ford.

William was a resident of Dover for over 55 years and worked as a meat cutter for the First National Grocery Store for over 30 years. He was longtime member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Dover. He was a lifetime member, and past president of the Down-East Westerners Square Dance Club of Kittery, Maine; long time Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 173, of the Daniel Webster Council, as well as the father of two Eagle Scouts.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda MacNeil of Wakefield, Mass.; his son, Bruce Ford and his wife, Virginia, of Clovis, N.M.; and Wayne Ford's partner, Bernadette Norton of Dover; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many children who looked up to him as "Grandpa."

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Bessie "Ruth" Ford; his son, Wayne D. Ford; his mother and father, Hattie and Oscar Ford of Lomoine, Maine; and two sisters, Ethel Kennedy and Rodell Briggs.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Attention: Charitable Accounting, One Kroc Drive, Oak Brook, IL 60523.

Friends and family may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, one hour prior to a funeral service at 2 p.m. at Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, with the Rev. Mark Munson Alley, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church, officiating.
