DOVER — Gerald W. Small, 75, of Dover passed away peacefully Nov. 25, 2011, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Jerry came to Dover as Principal of Dover Junior High School after having taught at Biddeford Junior High School for 2 years. He finished his teaching career of 39 years at Somersworth High. He also served in the Maine Army National Guard tank corps retiring as a 1st lieutenant.

Jerry was very involved in St. John's many activities; serving on committees, as Lay Leader, teaching Sunday School and Bible studies, as liturgist, the men's retreat committee, and the United Methodist Men's group.

Jerry is survived by Betty, his devoted wife of 49 years; his treasured family, daughter Dee and her husband Scott, and granddaughter Emma of Dover; his dearest friends, David Hodgdon of Troy, and Brett Hodgdon of Boston Mass.; and many members of his extended family.



A celebration of Jerry's life will be Saturday March 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 28 Cataract Ave., Dover. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute to the Gerald W. Small Scholarship for Future Educators to be established through St. John's United Methodist Church, Cataract Avenue, Dover, New Hampshire.
