KITTERY, Maine - Nancy Carter Carlson, 79, of State Road in Kittery, Maine died at her home on November 16, 2012 following a period of failing health.

Born in Union Township, N.J. on September 20,1933 she was a daughter of George and Mildred (Burt) Carter and was raised in Kittery Point, Maine attending local schools, graduating from R.W. Traip Academy with the class of 1952.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother she enjoyed time spent with her family. She especially enjoyed winters for many years in Davenport, Fla. with her husband Robert. They enjoyed all it had to offer, playing bingo, dancing, shuffle board and trips to the flea market as well as their many cruises they enjoyed together. Nancy enjoyed her many friends and the time she spent with the Red Hat Ladies.

Most recently she enjoyed making her home at Kittery Estates where she has enjoyed her many friends.

She is survived by; five children, Barry Higgins and wife, Brenda of Lancaster, Pa., Ken Higgins and wife, Patty of Kittery, Maine, Brian Higgins and wife, Donna of Kittery Point, Maine and Millie Cobb and husband, Gary of Wells, Maine, Michele and her husband, Jeffrey Lind of Limington, Maine; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joyce Turco and husband, Ross of Kittery, and Barbara Shearer and husband, George of Boise, Idaho, as well as her special friends Joni and Floyd and her dear friends and caregivers Kerry, Kelsei and Kelly. She was predeceased by her husbands, Thornton Higgins and Robert Carlson.

Friends may visit with Nancy's family on Saturday November 24, 2012 from 12 to 2 p.m. in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery, Maine 03904, where a memorial service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Beacon Hospice, 42 Brickyard Ct, York, Maine 03909 or to the http://www.cancer.org. Care for the Carlson family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
