SOUTH BERWICK - Jean M. Bowden, 84, formerly of Old Fields Road in South Berwick and long time resident and native of South Eliot died at Varney Crossing in North Berwick on November 28, 2012.

Born in South Eliot on October 11, 1928, she was a daughter of William E. and Evelyn M. (Dixon) Gerry. She attended local schools graduating from Eliot High School in 1946.
In 1953 Jean married her husband Ansel Bowden and together they made a home and raised their children just a short distance from her childhood home.
They made Woodbine Avenue in Eliot their home for nearly 45 years.
Active in her community, Jean served the Eliot Volunteer Fire Department as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years, she enjoyed membership in the John F. Hill Grange and was a lifelong member of the South Eliot Advent Christian Church, serving in many capacities over the years, teaching VBS, singing in the choir and serving as a deaconess.
Jean is survived by: her loving family, brother Bill Gerry; sister Glenda Tibbetts; sons Steve and Frank; daughters Brenda, Donna, Leona, Jackie; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with Jean's family on Tuesday evening from 6-8 in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery Maine 03904. A funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am in the funeral home with Pastor Charlie
