Dorothy A. Purvis

ROCHESTER - Dorothy A. (Littlefield) Purvis, 86 went to be with her Lord on December 15, 2012 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Rochester on May 24, 1926 to Ralph and May Littlefield.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was the widow of Carlyle Purvis to whom she was married for 51 years.

She was one of the founding members of BeFree Community Church of Barrington and more recently attended Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Rochester.

Dorothy is survived by four of her five children, Joyce Wood and husband Rodney of Alfred, Maine, Susan Huggard and husband, Daniel of Rochester, Charles Purvis and wife Barbara of Louisville, Ky. and Ruth Brown and husband, Rob of Wells, Maine and daughter-in-law, Allison Purvis of Acton, Maine. She was predeceased by her son, Brett Purvis. She was blessed and loved by her 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Dorothy also remained close to many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Sidney Littlefield, Beatrice Faulkingham and Barbara Plante Freeman and is survived by her sister-in-law, Eleanor Littlefield.

Dorothy enjoyed many interests and hobbies including knitting, gardening, puzzles, traveling, playing games and was always ready for a sing-a-long. She enjoyed being hospitable and her kind and generous heart was experienced by many.

Calling hours are Thursday, December 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Edgerly Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St. Rochester, N.H. A funeral honoring her life will be held on Friday, December 21 at 11 a.m. at True Memorial Baptist Church followed by a reception. Burial will take place in the spring at Old Cold Spring Cemetery, East Rochester, N.H.
