Edna Woodward

DURHAM - Edna Harvey Woodward, born March 18, 1922, passed away early in the morning on March 11, 2013.

Edna grew up on Red Oak Hill in Epping, N.H. Shortly after graduating from high school in 1940, she attended Nursing School at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, Mass. In 1944, she joined the Army Nurse Corps serving in Japan and the Philippines.

After the war Edna earned her BS in nursing at the University of New Hampshire where she met William "Bill" S. Woodward. They were married on December 27, 1947, and lived at the Woodward Farm in Durham, N.H.

Edna worked for UNH for 30 years retiring in 1987. In her retirement she enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, visiting friends and relatives, and renting rooms to a steady stream of college students at the farmhouse in Durham.

Edna is survived by her brother, Daniel W. Harvey, 92, his wife Louise P. Harvey, 87, of Epping, N.H., and her sister Agnes Harvey Wilkos, 89, of Glastonbury, Conn. She is also survived by her children, Margaret W. Redhouse of Lee, N.H., Jean W. Sawtell of New Portland, Maine, Harvey W. Woodward of Nottingham, N.H.; eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

In 2008, Edna was predeceased by her husband of almost 61 years, Bill Woodward.

A Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 22nd, from 2-3 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter Street, Newmarket.

Edna was, of course, an influential element in my life -- from childhood through UNH and on into maturity. She shared all that she had and made me a better person by the process. David and I wish we could be there to support the family through these difficult days.
