DURHAM - Charles B. "Chuck" Knowles, 91, of 1 Church Hill Rd. died Monday April 8, 2013 at St. Ann Nursing Home in Dover.
Born April 10, 1921 in Trenton, N.J. the son of Luke Knowles and Violet (Burgner) Knowles Walker. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, Villanova College and graduated from University of New Hampshire in 1961. He held degrees in civil engineering and liberal arts. He served in the Navy during WWII as a cartographic draftsman with Operational Intelligence, Command Air Pacific on Ford Island, Oahu. After his Naval discharge he worked for the New Jersey Highway Dept., New Hampshire Dept. of Public Works, UNH Service Dept and finally twenty four years as a freelance land surveyor in Lee. He fulfilled a life long dream teaching high school English in Newport and Conway New Hampshire.
He was a long time member of St. Thomas More parish in Durham; serving as a eucharistic minister and member of the Building and Grounds Committee.
The husband of Anne L. Knowles, who resides in Durham, he is survived by his son Mark B. Knowles of Phoenix, Ariz.; niece Jane Pfister of Brookline, Mass. and cousin Stephanie Brandon of Niantic, Conn.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of St. Thomas More in Durham. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Church of St. Thomas More, 6 Madbury Road, Durham, N.H. 03824
