Doris Lorraine Elmore, age 86, of Damascus, Maryland passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012. She was the wife of the late Ernest C. Elmore (Lt. Col., USA, Ret), to whom she was married for 54 years.
Born March 5, 1926, near St. Hilaire, MN, to Bennie E. and Mildred A. Johnson, Doris was a graduate of St. Hilaire High School and the University of Minnesota
School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse in Jefferson City, MO, and Richmond, VA, before becoming a fulltime homemaker. Over the years, she and her family lived in VA, MN, West Germany, and MD.
Before her illness, Doris enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, and sewing. She was a skilled cook and often gave apple pies to her neighbors. Playing bridge with her husband and another couple was a favorite pastime.
Surviving are four children, Gregory S. and David L. Elmore, both of Damascus, Patti L. Saba and husband, Mark, of John's Creek, GA, K. Heidi Mele of Mount Airy, MD, and four grandchildren, Mary and Peter Saba, and Nathan and Jack Mele. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald F. Johnson, and a sister Helen V. Dopson.
