Dorothy Marie Butler, 87, of Frederick, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born June 6, 1925 in Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel R. and Annie Elizabeth Disney Hoy. She was the wife of Earlston Butler, who died in 1974.
Mrs. Butler was a 1944 graduate of Lincoln High School. She was formerly employed as an LPN with Springfield State Hospital, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the International Community Church, Frederick; and Ladies Auxiliary of both VFW
Post 1042 of Brunswick and American Legion Post 11 of Frederick. She enjoyed making ceramics, traveling, and watching soap operas and reality programs on television.
Surviving are four daughters, Dorothy Regina Johnson, Jacqualine Sampson and husband Garfield and Rachel Butler, all of Frederick, Brenda Giles and husband, David of Libertytown; son, Larry Raymond Butler of Frederick; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Clara Butler of Frederick; numerous nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends, including Betty Dorsey and Gay Giles. She will be remembered by her former husband, Luther Holland of W.Va. She was predeceased by a son, Gary Butler; sisters, Mary Disney, Mary Jones, Delores Peach; brothers, Lewis and Carroll Hoy; and sister-in-law, Vinnie Hoy.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Rd., Libertytown with her pastor, Rev. Jerry Price, officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 23 from 4 to 8 p.m.
