Edwin Franklin Demory, Sr., 68, formerly of Pennington Gap, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the ARH Hospital, Middlesboro, KY, following a serious illness. Born in Gaithersburg, MD on March 3, 1945, Eddie was a son of the late Charles William and Erma Elizabeth (Carnes) Demory. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 38 years, Sheila Bentley Demory. They were married on August 29, 1975.
A 1963 graduate of Gaithersburg High School, Eddie's first job was at Kinsey's Esso. He entered the Navy in July 1964, was assigned to the USS Dixie, serving in Vietnam and received honorable discharge in October 1968. His Navy experiences never left him and his family was proud of his service. Eddie's skills in auto mechanics resulted in ownership of a BP gas station in Darnestown, MD. He was later employed as a bus driver by the D. C. Transit Authority, retiring in 1992. The family moved to scenic Southwestern VA, where his greatest joy was spending time with family and reading the Bible. He and Sheila enjoyed music, especially 70's and 80's love songs. Unable to travel, Eddie regularly phoned his siblings and relatives. A highlight was the Thursday evening calls to paternal aunt, Beulah Briggs, recently deceased on Feb. 11, at age 95. In addition to his wife, Eddie is survived by his children: Edwin F. Demory, Jr., of East Stone Gap, VA; Shannon Demory & Brian Laster of Duffield, VA; and Joshua Demory of Middlesboro; Grandchildren: Austin Demory, Haley Whisenhunt and Madison Gibson; and Alexis and Laken Honeycutt and Dylan Laster; and Siblings: Diane Marcella, New Castle, PA; Larry Demory, Ranson, WV; Linda Dixon, Frederick, MD and Steve Demory and wife Charlotte, Boonsboro, MD. Also by sisters-in-law: Judith (Mrs. C.W. Demory, Jr.), Martinsburg, WV and Charlsie Bentley & husband Ernie Rhodes of Kingsport, TN. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Eddie in death were his parents; brother, Charles William Demory, Jr.; mother-in-law, Ilene Dinsmore; brother-in-law, Lawrence Marcella, M.D.; and nephew,
Eddie Michael Demory. Eddie was a Pentecostal Christian who loved God with all his heart. Through his website and online prayer group, "Gods Helpers", he ministered to the spiritual needs of hundreds over a seven year period.
Cremation was at the Arnett & Steele Funeral Home, PIneville, KY. A private Memorial Celebration is planned and will include Eddie's favorite song, "The Old Rugged Cross". Condolences may be sent to the family at 625 South 29th St., Apt. 1, Middlesboro, KY 40965.
