Frederick Keith Smith

Frederick Keith Smith, 87, died peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home in Rockville, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Marian. Born in DuBois, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Harold Ross Smith and Mildred Huffman Smith. Frederick "Fred" graduated from DuBois High School and later Penn State University. He enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and served until the end of WWII. Fred married his wife, Marian Frances "Pinki" Fitzpatrick, on June 14, 1948. Together they had four children: Wayne Smith, and Kevin Smith of Walkersville, Marcia Smith of Hagerstown, and Brett Smith of Urbana; ten grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Fred taught Science and Mathematics in Gaithersburg, Maryland. After retirement, Fred and Marian traveled the world together. Fred acted as Sunday School superintendent for many years. The couple supported the University of Maryland's Women's Basketball team as members of The Rebounders. They enjoyed the arts attending many plays, visiting museums and other cultural events with their couples' club, literary group, and friends. Fred and Marian journaled their experiences with photography and shared their adventures with a monthly webpage for over sixteen years. A life-celebrating memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014, 1:00 pm at Millian Memorial United Methodist Church, 13016 Parkland Drive, Rockville, MD, 20853.
