On Sunday, December 30, Bruce Douglas, age 79, died from complications of Parkinson's disease at home in Chevy Chase, MD surrounded by family.
He graduatedfrom Frederick High School in 1951, Princeton University
with a civil engineering degree in 1955, and the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in 1969 and a doctorate in 1977 in transportation engi- neering. He began his career working for Bethlehem Steel in Philadelphia, and then when his interests turned to transportation planning, for firms in Philadelphia and the Washington, DC area. He worked on transportation corridor and regional planning studies around the country.
He is survived by his wife, Penny; sister, Jean Cadle of Emmitsburg; children Jean Havrilla of Frederick, George B. Douglas IV, Laura Priddy, Ian Douglas, Meredith Neal, and Chris Campbell; 13 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church, 9601 Cedar Lane, Bethesda, MD at 2 pm, January 26 with a reception to follow at the church. Donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at michaeljfox.org
