George Rue Jr.(1944 - 2013)

Mr. George Emerson Rue Jr., 69, of Taneytown, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Carroll Hospital Center. Born October 27, 1944 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late George E. Rue Sr. and Marion Hitchcock Rue. He was the husband of Dorothy Wolfe Rue, his wife of 36 years. Mr. Rue served in the U.S. Army. He was the owner/operator of Eagle Jewelers in Mt. Airy for 34 years. He was a member of the Hesson-Snyder American Legion Post 120 of Taneytown and was a past member of the Mt. Airy Rotary Club. He enjoyed golf, the Ravens and Orioles and Mt. St. Mary's basketball. In addition to his wife he is survived by 2 daughters, Amy Gehrke and wife Eilene Gehrke of Portland, OR and Julie Starkwether and husband Adam of Kalamazoo, MI; 4 grandchildren, Cameron Fierro, Lexie Starkwether, Shannon Fierro and Caitie Starkwether; a sister, Mary Alice "Rusty" Myers and husband Elwood of Union Bridge; sister-in-law, Betty Williams and husband Keith of New Windsor and brothers-in-law, Dan Wolfe and wife Kathy and Richard Wolfe, all of New Windsor. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 3 at Windsor Station at the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co., 101 High St., with Deacon Charles Barnhart, officiating. Private interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 2.
