Mr. Kenneth Joseph Hooper(1925 - 2013)

Mr. Kenneth Joseph Hooper Sr., 88, of Union Bridge, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Born July 18, 1925 in Union Bridge, he was the son of the late Riley E. and Mary Lucinda Lettire Hooper. He was the husband of Helen Dorothy Spridonoff Hooper who died in 1992.

Mr. Hooper served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 29th Division, seeing action in the European theater. He was a member of the Union Bridge United Methodist Church; a life member of V.F.W. Post 8806, Union Bridge; a member of D.A.V. Old Glory Post 22, American Legion Post 31 and the Loyal Order of Moose 1318, all of Westminster. He was formerly employed with Lehigh Portland Cement Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1989. After retirement he worked for Westminster Transmission until the age of 83. He enjoyed dancing, travelling, fishing and spending time with his family.

Surviving are 2 daughters, Sandy Ann Zimmerman and husband Steve of Union Bridge; Kathy L. Glacken of Taneytown; 3 grandchildren, Wendy, Tracy and Angie; 6 great grandchildren, Justin, Emily, Abby, Katie, Mackenzie and Ryleigh; and a sister, Christine Brandenburg of Mt. Pleasant. He was predeceased by a son, Kenneth J. Hooper Jr., granddaughter, Christy Glacken, a sister, Dorothy Hooper and 3 brothers, Donald, Riley and Paul Hooper.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, with Rev. Richard L. Michael, pastor of St. James Lutheran Church, Union Bridge, officiating. Military interment will be in Pipe Creek Cemetery, near Linwood. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, October 23.
