Marwood "Woody" F. Rupp passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 23rd at his home in Clarksburg, Maryland. He was a devoted husband, loving father, supportive grandfather and loyal friend.
He was born on November 23, 1927 in Saginaw, Michigan. He served in the Navy during WWII
, and earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan
and a graduate degree from the University of Minnesota
. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) fraternity. In his forty year career as a transportation engineer and urban planner, he acted as city manager for several towns, created road and city development projects throughout the United States and the Middle and Far East, managed the Northeast corridor rail improvement project, and helped engineer the Washington Metro system. His work took him all over the world and he lived for over two years in Tripoli, Libya. He retired as a Vice President at De Leuw Cather, which became TRW.
For the last twenty years, he was a dedicated volunteer at the Monocacy Lions Club and Damascus American Legion Post 171, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marjorie Rupp; his four daughters, Tammy Rupp, Terrill Rupp Doyle and husband Mike, Toni McDermott and husband Geoffrey, Tracy Helwig and husband Dan; six grandchildren, Christopher McDermott and wife Georgia, Daniel McDermott, Patrick Doyle, John Doyle, Alyx Snyder, Derek Helwig and wife Casey; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd. (Rt. 109) in Barnesville, Maryland (hiltonfh.com
