Paul B. Stroup

Paul B. Stroup, passed away on October 4, 2013 at his home in Kearneysville, WV. He was born on March 17, 1932 in Ellerton, Maryland to the late James Ord Stroup and Annie Routzahn Stroup.

Paul was married to Karen W. Stroup, his devoted wife of 26 years. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Lucille Hood, Madeline Ahalt, Rachael Davis, Evelyn Stroup, and Lois Harrison, and his brothers Spangler Stroup, Virgil Stroup, James Stroup and Willard Stroup.

Paul is sadly missed by his spouse Karen, son Steve and his wife Denyelle Stroup of Fulks Run, VA, step-daughter Allison and her husband Jon Cadle-Adams of Kearneysville, WV, brother Ellis Stroup of Middletown MD and sister Naomi Hayes of Frederick, MD, son Scott Stroup of Frederick, MD, and his grandchildren Katie and Taylor Stroup of Fulks Run, VA and Avery and Asher Cadle-Adams of Kearneysville, WV. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Paul loved his God, his country and his family and friends. Paul grew up in the Middletown Valley area, MD .He graduated from Middletown High School where he played soccer, basketball and baseball all four years. He was offered a full athletic scholarship to University of Maryland and George Washington University. He accepted the offer and graduated from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. where he played basketball and baseball for four years, and became the ROTC Cadet Commander. Paul completed post graduate degrees at the University of Alabama.

He played professionally with the Boston (Atlanta) Braves Baseball Organization. He left to fulfill his military obligation. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and achieved the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force and served in the OSI division. After completing his military service, he joined the Frederick County MD school system and served as a teacher, counselor and administrator. He served as Principal of Emmitsburg, Middletown and Governor Thomas Johnson High Schools as well as an Area Supervisor in the Central Office. Upon retirement from Frederick County Schools, he served as Principal of Hedgesville High School in Hedgesville, WV. Paul loved his students and touched the lives of many students, parents and faculty.

He was inducted to the Frederick County Alvin G. Quinn Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Additionally, he was a Certified Residential Appraiser, Realtor, and Auctioneer.

A memorial celebration will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, MD on Saturday October 12 at 3:00 PM. Van Marsceau, Pastor of Fellowship Bible church will perform the service. The family will greet friends after the service in the church Fellowship Hall.

His immediate family will hold a private internment service at a later time.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Middletown High School Sports Center (MHSSC) 200 School House Drive, Middletown, MD 21769 or to Fellowship Bible Church, 160 Daniel Road, Shenandoah Junction, WV 25443.
