William Wallace Dennie Sr.

Mr. William Wallace Dennie, Sr., 83, of Frederick, died quietly at home on Feb. 11th 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Joan Dennie, his brother Robert Sapp, and his sister and brother-in-law Gertrude and Tim Springer.

Born Feb. 10, 1930 in Wilmington, Delaware, he was raised by his step- father's parents, Raymond and RachelLouthof Christiana, Delaware. William enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947 as a member of acommunications team reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars with duties taking him to many European and Asian ports of call.

After 21 years of service, Mr. Dennie, Sr. retired from the Navy and moved his family to Silver Spring, MD in 1968 where he worked at Vitro Corporation for an additional 24 years. Mr. Dennie settled his family in Frederick, Maryland in 1978.

Mr. Dennie was a Corporal in the Frederick County Sherrif's Community Assistance Patrol and then went on to join the Frederick City Uniformed Auxiliary as a Sergeant. Mr. Dennie was actively involved and received numerous awards from the city officials, stateofficials, and Presidents for his volunteer work. On his retirement he was promoted to Sergeant Emeritus.

Mr. Dennie is survived by his brother and sister-in-law James and Nancy Sapp of Minquadale, DE, his brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Karen Davis of Newark, DE, and sister-in-law Lynn Sapp of Elkton, MD. He is also sur- vived by a daughter and two sons as well as by his loving daughter Sandra Jean Dennie who provided for his care after his wife's death. Additionally he is survived by a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is planned on February 15, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Fort Detrick Chapel; inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
