Maude Estelle (Jones) Gunther

MaudeEstelle(Jones) Gunther, 91, of Brunswick, and formerly of Baltimore (Dundalk area), died peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012 in the comfort of her son's home, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Ralph Edward Gunther who died in 1979.

Born December 22, 1920 in Clayton, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Lee Andrew and Mary Etta (Coats) Jones.

She retired from Nursing in 1983 at Baltimore City Hospital, now Johns Hopkins Bayview. She was part of the team that started the Intensive Care Unit. She was seen around Baltimore for many years as a contestant in the Hog Calling Contests that were held at the War Memorial Plaza. She placed often and won the title in 1993.

She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling many (other true) stories, limericks, and funny sayings. She especially enjoyed Elvis; her favorite to the end. "Shake, Rattle & Roll!"

She is survived by her son Stanley Gunther and wife Eileen; grandsons Robert,Nicholas (Dianna), and Zachary; granddaughter Alexandra, of Brunswick and Frederick; brother Bill Jones of Chicago; nieces Shirley Lee (Clayton, NC); Gail Holder Turner (Garner, NC); nephews Charles Holder (Raleigh, NC); Philip Holder (Clayton, NC), and many others in Massachusetts, North Carolina and Florida.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara; a son, Jeffery; a brother, C. Wade Jones; sisters, Mildred Parrish and Margaret Holder.

She will be missed by many friends; the Malone's; the Belt's; Ms. Lisa, Ms. Anna; the many friends of her grandchildren, who came to love her as "Grandma"; and her wonderful caregivers and nurses from Hospice, espe- cially Cathy, Gail, and Sandra.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
