Albert Bauer Obituary

Albert C. Bauer, age 84, a physicist who was a retired civilian employee of the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, died Saturday, August 21, 2004, at Buckingham's Choice as a result of leukemia.

Mr. Bauer was the husband of Mary Kessner Bauer, his wife for over 62 years.

Mr. Bauer came to the Washington area in 1941 and worked for the Naval Ordnance Laboratory as a Chief Petty Officer and later as a civilian employee. He retired after 31 years from the position of supervisory ordnance engineer in the air and surface evaluation department in 1973. He was a lab consultant for a year after his retirement. At the laboratory, he served in the research department, the personnel department and the air and surface evaluation department. He also served as a liaison officer to the Naval Weapons Laboratory at Dahlgren, Virginia.

After his retirement, he resided for seven years in Citrus Springs, Florida, where he served as a volunteer in the emergency medical service and was secretary of the local Lions Club and a member of the Elks Club.

In 1980, he settled in Crestwood Village in Frederick, where he was active in the management of the Crestwood community, served for over 20 years as a volunteer in the emergency department of the Frederick Memorial Hospital and enjoyed the sport of tennis.

In March of 2000, he moved to Buckingham's Choice in Adamstown. He maintained an active schedule of tennis and volunteering at the ambulatory care clinic at Buckingham's Choice.

Mr. Bauer was a member of All Saint's Episcopal Church in Frederick and participated in the activities of the men's choir.

Mr. Bauer was born in Hammond, Indiana, graduated from Hobart Indiana High School and after graduating MIT, received his B.A. in physics from the University of Maryland in College Park.

Surviving besides his wife Mary are three daughters, Janice Seaman of Monrovia, Carol Shaffer of Stevensville and Jeanne Padgett of Annapolis; six grandchildren, Laura Hall, Andrew Seaman, Bobby Shaffer, Brian Shaffer, Christine Padgett and Scott Padgett; four great-grandchildren, Kayla and Helena Hall and Peyton and Parker Seaman; and one sister, Shirley Figley of St. Petersburg, Florida.

A memorial service will be held at Buckingham's Choice, Adamstown, on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 3 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 400 West Seventh St., Frederick, MD 21701.
