Earl "Gene" Bossard Obituary

Earl "Gene" Bossard died July 27, 2013 at Tuscany Hospice Home of Marion County, FL. Born March 18, 1929 to A. Earl and Evelyn Louise Bussard in Middletown, MD.

He retired as Safety Director from Daily Express Trucking Co., Carlisle, PA after 38 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie in 2009 and brother Dennis in 1997.

Gene graduated from Walkersville High School Class of 1946. He joined the Air Force and became a decorated Korean Veteran having been a crew chief to the USA's first Jet Ace Major James Jarbara. Gene was featured in Life Magazine with his plane in 1951. He belonged to the 4th Fighter Intercept Wing Assoc. as past president and held office of Treasurer at the time of his death. He was a 60 year member of Acacia Lodge #155, Thurmont, MD; lifetime member of the American Legion & VFW, charter member of Middleton Park and Recreation Board of PA and a member of 334 Fighting Eagles.

Gene enjoyed traveling, especially attending his Air Force reunion in different parts of the United States every year. He was also an avid sports fan and known for his great knuckleball pitching, loved the Chicago Bears, NASCAR, bowling and belonged to a league in The Villages, FL; fishing from his Grady White; camping, spent weekends at a campsite in Ocean View, DE before moving to Pine Island, FL and later to The Villages, FL where he resided for 10 years. He was employed at Publics Grocery Store in The Villages for 7 years until the time of his death.

He leaves behind a son, Jeff (Linda), son Tim (Laurie), grandson Jason (Jennifer), and great-grandchild Sophia Lynn, sister-in-law Barbara and devoted sister Shirley Shaw; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service with Rev. Jon-Marc MacLean officiated at Hope Lutheran Church on August 1, 2013. Masonic Lodge of Lady Lake, FL and American Legion of Lady Lake participated in the church service. Inurnment will be at Bushnell National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
