Mrs. Martha M. Henley, 86, of Mount Airy, Maryland died, Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Carroll County Medical Center, Westminster. She had been a resident of Shephard's Glen Assisted Living Facility, Middleburg Road, Taneytown, for the past 10 months. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William D. Henley.|
Born May 8, 1926 in Poplar Springs, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Eleanor Gillis Stull.
Martha retired from National Geographic in 1991. Previous to her employment there, she and her husband Bill, operated Henley's Electric Center in Mount Airy. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, and taking trips, either local or abroad.
Martha was a charter member of the American Legion Post 191, and the Legion Auxiliary, Mount Airy; and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W.
She is survived by her four children: W. Downey Henley, Jr., Cynda Bertier, Patricia deLaubenfels, and Randy G. Henley (Lisa); eight grandchildren:Jeremy (Susie), Emily, and Sadie Bertier; Nikki and Erin deLaubenfels; Taylor, Brianna and Griffin Henley; four great-grandchildren, Abby, Lily, Gracie, and Callie Bertier; two sisters Marie Reed (George), Betty Ifert and a dear friend, Buddy Hill.
She is preceded in death by sons-in-law Ted Bertier and Eric deLaubnfels, and a brother-in-law Johnny Ifert.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Shepard's Glen for their constant and warm care she received while a resident.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland, and on Tuesday, April 30 from 10:00 until services begin at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m.. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
