Mr. Sterling T. King, 73, of Cedar Grove, Maryland, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, March 11, 2013, entering God's eternal care.|
Born January 6, 1940 in Cedar Grove, MD, he was the son of the late Ira Leroy King and Laura E. Davis King. Sterling was the loving husband of Michele King, and passed away just three days before their 44th anniversary. He was the very much-loved father of Brandy King Gibbons and Anthony King.
Sterling was a graduate of Damascus High School, and shortly thereafter joined the National Guard. He worked and lived on his cherished family farm his entire life. Farming was his life and he truly loved and enjoyed being a farmer. He got great pleasure going to his monthly Montgomery County grain meetings and breakfasts. Sterling enjoyed hunting and fishing and took several trips to Alaska and out west.
Until recently, he was an avid trapshooter and enjoyed going to local and national shoots. He was a life member of the Mt. Airy Izaak Walton League, the Mt. Airy American Legion and the Williamsport Improved Order of Redmen. He was a long-time member of the Maryland Farm Bureau, the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA), the Brunswick Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Frederick Loyal Order of the Moose and the Frederick Improved Order of Redmen.
Sterling was a wonderful and very special man with a heart as big as the Montana sky. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had many friends and enjoyed knowing each and every one. He will be missed and sadly mourned by all.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: daughter Brandy and husband Ronald (Ron) Gibbons of Clarksburg; and son Anthony (Tony) and wife Janice Of Eldersburg. Pop- Pop is also survived by three grandchildren: Laura Gibbons, Brandon King and Shelby King. He was preceded in death by one brother: Ira Leroy King, Jr. and is survived by one sister.
The family will receive friends 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at Molesworth- Williams, P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, March 18 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Salem Methodist Cemetery, Cedar Grove, MD.
