Mr. William Russell Wiegel Jr. Obituary
Mr. William Russell Wiegel, Jr., 66, of Frederick, passed away on July 17, 2013 after a hard-fought battle with sarcomatoid mesothelioma.

Born Oct. 10, 1946 in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late William R. Wiegel, Sr., and Ida Belle Wiegel. Bill graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1964 and graduated Magna Cum Laude with an AA in Public Fire Safety from Montgomery College. When he joined the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department at 16 and later enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, it was the beginning of a long career in public service. Bill was a Volunteer Firefighter for over 50 years and a Life Member and past Fire Chief at RVFD, one of the busiest fire departments in Montgomery County, Maryland, operating four fire stations in a fire district covering approximately 85 square miles. He also served as a volunteer at Walkersville, Funkstown, and Hedgesville, WV. His lifetime career in public service brought him to Frederick County as an Emergency Communications Manager handling 911 calls for the County, and providing communications services for County Fire-Rescue, Sheriff, and Animal Control, as well as four other police agencies operating in the County. Most recently, Bill was a major part of the Frederick County Emergency Preparedness/GIS Mapping team and is part of KME/Kovatch Antietam Fire Apparatus sales team. Bill enjoyed riding his Harley, and was a NASCAR fan, but the thing he loved the most, in addition to fire service, was spending time with his grandsons and his daughter.

Bill is survived by his wife, Karen Brown of Germantown; daughter, Merry Nicole Meyer & husband Ken of Frederick; brother, David Wiegel & wife Gwen of Frederick; two sisters, Marilynn Harrison & husband Stuart of Ijamsville, and Deborah Wiegel of Orange, VA; and four grandsons, Nicholas & Zachary Mathews, Brandon & Thomas Meyer; three nephews, a niece, cousins, extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 – 9 pm on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens and funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 23, from the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. Route 15 N in Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bill to the Patty Pollatos Fund, Inc. 11102 Eagletrace Court, New Market, MD 21774 or to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, Hands In 4 Bill W., 1317 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
