March 3, 1935-April 13, 2014
Carrie Riley "Peggy" Lake, 79, of Front Royal, VA passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Loving Arms.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Elder Bill Jenkins. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Lake was born March 3, 1935 in Front Royal, VA daughter of the late Albert and Ella Mae Kenney Riley. Mrs. Lake was the owner of John Lake Paving Company with her husband, the late John G. Lake, Sr., whom she married on June 30, 1956. They created a successful business and enjoyed running it together. She enjoyed being a great homemaker and loved gardening her rose bushes in particular. Her love of animals was very apparent from the bird feeders in her yard to her love of the neighborhood pets, and she always kept an eye out for them. She had such a strong faith in the Lord. We all listened and learned the Truth at the supper table where the plaque of the Ten Commandments hung. Her great joy came from being a wife and mother to all. Her love and legacy will not be forgotten, and until we see her again, she will be greatly missed.
She was the loving mother to six children Joseph Lake, John Lake, Jr., Robert Lake, Wanda Settle, Frank Lake and Sheila Rush of Strasburg; one brother Frank Riley ; two sisters Julie Wachter and Charlene Bowers ; grandchildren Rebecca Dooley, John Lake, III, Bill Settle, John Settle, and Jonathan Weaver and Paul Rush, III; great-grandchildren Kim Lake, Alexis Lake, Taylor Dooley, John Lake, IV, and Joden Persinger. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Billy Riley, Tommy Riley, and Hunter Riley; and a sister Dorothy Riley.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Lake, John Lake, Jr., Robert Lake, Frank Lake, William Settle, and Paul Rush.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Lake, III, Bill Settle, John Settle, Adam Dooley, Paul Rush, III, and Kenneth Proffitt.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 17, from 7:00-9:00p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.
