Charles Bowens Obituary
Charles Edward "Joe" Bowens, 85, of Charles Town, WV, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 12, 2014.

Joe was born December 26, 1928 to the late Charles and Edna Bowens.

He attended Frederick County Public Schools and was employed by Waste Management prior to retirement.

Joe enjoyed Country music, western movies and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Bernadette Spears and Laverne Wainwright, three grandchildren, James Spears, Maria Spears and Aaron Edwards, five great grandchildren, Elexis Taylor, Keira Lyle, Christopher Rodriguez, Layla Edwards and Aaron Edwards, Jr., seven sisters, Frances Allen "Bernie", Adeline Diggs "Eotti", Peggy Diggs, Genevieve Bowens, Joyce McDonald, who he raised as his own, Cindy Bowens and Darlene Williams, eight brothers, Sherman Bowens "Buddy", Roger Bowens "Gumps", James Bowens "Jimmy", Michael Bowens, Carlton Scott, David Bowens, Randy Bowens and Charles Bowens "Butch", special nieces, Carla Spears, who he raised as his granddaughter, and special great-niece, Latavia Smith and great-nephew, Marcus Smith, both of whom he raised as his great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two devoted friends, Lloyd Butler and Robert Hart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carlmelita Bowens in 2001, one son, Leonard Bowens, grandson, Brandon Spears, four brothers, Maynard Bowens "Tom", Frank Bowens, Milton Bowens and Clifton Bowens, and three sisters, Jane Dorsey, Frances Rollins "Sissy" and Erma Thompson.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with Dr. Alex Lambert, Jr.

officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, WV.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to services on Thursday.
