Charlotte Abrecht


Mrs. Charlotte L. Abrecht, 86, a resident of Smith Health Center, Mountaintop, Pa., and formerly of Frederick, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at the Smith Health Center. She was the wife of the late Norman Edgar Abrecht Sr., who died Jan. 9, 2005.

Born March 3, 1922, in McKaig, she was a daughter of the late Robert Pikney and Martha Catherine Mayne Droneburg. Mrs. Abrecht was an active member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren for many years where she was a member of the BYDANHO Sunday School Class, the women's and quilter's guilds, and the Fellowship Committee of the Church and she enjoyed gardening.

She worked at Frederick Tailoring for a number of years, and later with American Optical Co., Frederick. She was also self-employed for many years as a seamstress.

She is survived by one son, Norman E. Abrecht Jr. and wife, Temple, of Frederick; two daughters, Jacqueline Kay Matthews and husband, Ron, of Drums, Pa., and Laverna Troxell and husband, Bernard, of Laurel; six grandchildren, Chad Abrecht of Frederick, Holly Franz and husband Eric of Frederick, Mitchell Matthews and wife Dawn of Hanover Township, Pa., Lucas Matthews and wife, Kerry, of Warrior Run, Pa., Craig Foster and wife, Barbara, of Harper's Ferry, W.Va., Peggy Foster Strange, of Salisbury; 14 great-grandchildren, Vinny, Emily, Lily, Samuel Matthews, Kaiden and Mason Matthews, Amanda, Catlin, Dale and Olivia Foster, Wyatt and Owen Franz, Jessica and Robert Strange; and a number of nieces and nephews including a special niece, Eleanor Foy and husband, Sonny, of Baltimore.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Louise Foster, in 2001; two sisters and six brothers.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church St., Frederick. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, from the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick.

Friends may also call from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Rev. Dr. Paul Mundey, and Rev. Dr. James S. Flora, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her name to the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, MD 21701.
