Mrs. Elizabeth A. Burdette, 90, of Woodfield, Maryland passed away suddenly, Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at her home. She was wife of the late Russell Lewis Burdette, who died in 1979.|
Born May 31, 1923 in Sykesville, Maryland she was a daughter of the late Willoughby and Viola Matthews Allport.
Elizabeth was a long time member of Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, helped with many funeral luncheons, and church dinners. She was president of the United Methodist Women for many years. She was chairman of the Prayer Chain of the church, and was instrumental in starting the Prayer Shawl Ministry, for which she made many shawls.
Elizabeth enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading. She was a member of the Damascus Travel Club, and in her younger years she enjoyed gardening, both vegetables and flowers.
Surviving her are two step-children: Lewis A. Burdette and his wife Nelda Louise of Damascus; and J. Eileen Burroughs and her husband George (Buzz) of Damascus. Seven step grandchildren; Nineteen great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and special friends Roberta Grimes, and Nancy and Richard Rupp.
Beside her husband and parents she is preceded in death by a brother Robert M. Allport in 1971, and sister Helen A. Watkins in 2001.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Molesworth-Williams P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md. 20872. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 12 at Wesley Grove United Methodist Church, 23640 Woodfield Road, Gaithersburg, Md. 20882. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
