Martha Catherine Burdette Pearce

Martha Catherine Burdette Pearce, 98, longtime resident of Damascus, MD passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Lorien Mt. Airy. She was the wife of George Chester Pearce who predeceased her in Jan. 1991. She was born in Damascus on July 17, 1915 to the late Claude Hamilton and Sarah R. Boyer Burdette.

Catherine was a graduate of Damascus High School Class of 1932. She worked in Food Services for MCPS for 28 years retiring July 1977 from Baker Middle School after having been Cafeteria Manager at both Baker

M.S. and Poolesville JHS/HS. She also worked at Damascus Elementary School, Damascus High School and Tom & Ray's Restaurant .

Prior to her death she was the oldest living member of the Damascus United Methodist Church having joined on March 29, 1925. She was an Honorary Life Member of the Damascus American Legion Auxiliary Post 171 and a former member of the Damascus Travel Club and Damascus Senior Center.

Affectionately known as "Kitty," "Mom Kitty," and "Grandma Kitty" by her family and friends, she was a loving and caring person who will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Pearce was the mother of five children: daughter, Ruby Bellison and husband Bob, of Damascus; sons, Chester Ray Pearce of Taneytown, Roscoe Milton Pearce and wife Jean of Damascus and Harry Alvin Pearce and wife June of Mt. Airy. She is survived by fourteen grandchildren: Lisa Carter, Lori Cole. Lynn Orange, Daryl & Douglas Pearce, Dana Wertz, Milton Ashley, Jeffrey & Paul Ben Pearce, Valerie Grim, Melinda Cool, Todd & Kimberly Pearce and Kathi Smith. She is also survived by twenty­ eight great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Reva M. Pearce of Crownsville, MD and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her son George Hamilton Pearce in August 2013 and her great-granddaughter

Amy Nicole Gay in December 1991; two sisters, Sarah King, Mildred Day; and five brothers; Basil, Earl, Claude, John, Charles Burdette and brother-in­ law, Roscoe Pearce.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, March 30th at the Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, Maryland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 31st at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Damascus United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Pearce's name to the Damascus American Legion Auxiliary Unit 171 Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 171, Damascus, MD 20872 or to the Damascus United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 9700 New Church St. Damascus, MD 20872.
