Myrtle Waddell Obituary
Myrtle "Irene" Waddell, a resident of Somerford Assisted Living in Frederick, MD and previously of Beckley, WV, left this world to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 11, 2014.

Born May 27, 1919 in Beaver, WV, she was the daughter of the late Eli Wetzel and Florence Cox Miller. 91 of her 94 years were spent in her beloved state of West Virginia.

She was a devoted wife, loving Mother, and a wonderful homemaker where love and pride showed in everything she did. She loved the outdoors and was passionate about tending her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a very gentle, shy and private woman, but made new friends everywhere she went, and, she loved everyone. The last few years of her life she suffered with excruciating pain from Rheumatoid and Osteoarthritis which greatly hampered her livelihood.

Irene was a long time member of The Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church in Beaver, WV.

She is survived by one daughter, Martha Jane and husband Robert Butts, one sister Mary Evelyn Smith, a "sister-in-law" Bonnie Miller, six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by six very special people: Arnyst and Nancy Lilly, Jack and Janice Smith, and Hilda Critchley and son Steve.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Dewey "Crockett" Waddell, three daughters, Patricia Lilly-Kerrigan, Sandra K. Smith and Carolyn M. Smith, and sister's Pauline Miller and Cora Lee Richardson, and brother's Kenneth, Eli, John, Julius "JC", and "Little" Eddie.

The family wishes to acknowledge all of the staff and residents at Somerford for the loving care and friendship they gave her during her almost four years of living in Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675, or online to woundedwarriorproject.org.

Her body will be entrusted to the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Chapel in Beckley,WV.

There will be a viewing at 10:00am with funeral services following at 11:00am on April 19th in the Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, WV, with the Elder Jerry McGrady delivering the service. Burial will follow.

Local arrangements are by Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, Middletown.
